I am not surprised that Natalie would describe her opponents as "ignorant". This is one of the basic reasons why the UEA and its front groups oppose financially viable choice for moderate and lower income households. In their view, these folks are just too IGNORANT to make decisions regarding their children's own education.
UEA/PTA mantra: A choice! A choice! We have got a choice and there cannot be any more choice!
Parents do have some choice in their children's education. How much however, depends on where they live, their income, needs, and what charter schools are available. It is a sad state of affairs for some. I have worked in our public schools. There are are some fine dedicated teachers serving our kids. They are not the guarantee though. Putting your children in some public schools, as I have seen first hand, is like playing Russian Roulette with your child's emotional health as well as education. We all know of parents who have special needs children and sacrifice to provide a level of education and care that the districts either can not or will not offer. If a student chooses to use a voucher to attend a private institution, The Legislature will continue funding to that public school as though that student had never left. I plan to keep my son in his public school. Continued money for less students is an idea that sounds good to me. I know what I know because I am involved, experienced and I care about my children and those in my community as well. Emotions seem to be running awfully high on this issue. By definition ignorance does not mean concerned people having a difference of opinion.

That ain't ten years late, brother. Try 50.
Any parent who thinks they do not currently have choice in their child's education is ignorant.
And I think you might be counting your chickens before they hatch.
