Liaoning Visit Begins

Tomorrow a delegation from the Utah State Senate and House of Representatives will travel to our sister state in China. You can find detail in today’s Deseret Morning News and KCPW.
Here is the Itinerary.

Here is the Map. Here's one in English. And another.

Here is a terse briefing on economics and trade in China.
Anyone interested in periodic reports from Liaoning can keep an eye on this site. The delegation has a pocket full of phone cards and have promised to check in with Senate Radio from time to time.

The D-News said only 13 legislators are going, and that one of them is not taking a spouse. Who all are going, and who isn't taking his/her spouse?

Representative Hansen decided not to go. It turns out that only about half of the spouses will be traveling with the delegation (they must have seen the itinerary). The Deseret Morning News reported otherwise but that was our error, not theirs. I think they'll run a correction tomorrow.

I'm glad the Utah State Legislature is using our budget surplus wisely on a wasteful trip to China. Let the Federal Government work on international relations. I fail to see the benefit this trip has for Utahns.

I'd be inclined to think of this as a political junket, but there's no golf on the itinerary (unless they plan to sneak in a round at the Summer Palace Saturday afternoon.
