The Truth Test

Referendum One. Wouldn't it be nice if someone without a dog in the fight would analyze the various voucher advertisements and offer an independent perspective?

Well, the world is your oyster. Tonight KSL aired The Truth Test.
Read the story (good).

Watch the video (better).

That was a great report! It is refreshing to hear from someone who isn't just trying to promote their own cause or agenda. It's hard to know which side to trust (even the trusty senate site isn't highlighting all the information, just the parts that support their viewpoint) but I feel like I can put some stock in this report. In war and politics truth can be the first casualty.

This report could not possibly have been more deceptive.

For me the most glaring distortion provided in the segment was the discussion about the overall costs and benefits of the voucher program over only the first year. They neglected to point out that as each year passes this new entitlement becomes more and more expensive as new children join the program who never would have been in public schools in the first place with or without the voucher program.

After the program has been in place for 12 years the real cost per year (according to the voter guide the "reporter" in the segment was holding in his hand) is $70 million dollars while the most generous projected savings to districts due to the plan are less than $28 million. While it was mentioned that the project is a net cost they never pointed out how extreme the costs are compared with the meager financial benefits of vouchers.

This was pretty clear outright deception. Sorry Senate Site...you'd be better off publicizing the voter guide which is actually closer to being impartial than this obvious hack piece by KSL.

Where was the analysis of the Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, NEA ad?

Funny how KSL left that ad off the table.

But when has KSL truly done any investigative reporting lately?

Is anyone else out there noticing how bitter and foolish the voucher haters are sounding? It's the same tired whining from the same people over and over. Look guys, you're going to win the vote. Do it with some class.

"The Voucher Haters"

LOL

Bitter and foolish?

I would say enlightened and brilliant, but I'm one of those baby killing, immoral, union thugs (even though I don't belong to one) who hates voucher, so what would I know?

Thanks you know exactly who I am (which by the way is another lie because I don't).

Vote NO on 1!

This report has the same overall conclusion as a Tribune analysis from this weekend. The union ads are simply not true.

What an incredibly biased piece from KSL. Stamping a big green TRUE over the PCE ads and a big red FALSE over the anti-voucher ads! Given that you can't explain every detail of the private school voucher plan in a 30-second ad, both side have to simplify their arguments. But the Oreo cookie ad was completely false.

This is such a tough choice! Should we believe the chorus of whiners from the Party of NO (Vote No!) or believe a consistently reliable news outlet? I may not vote for vouchers but I'm with KSL on this one.

Anon, 12:28: You make a valid point, but that felt like a personal slam. Can you find a way to make your point that preserves her -and your- dignity a little better?

I had to laugh when I read this. If you don’t agree with it then it MUST be biased. You’re a Democrat, right? Just a hunch...
