Wastebusters...
Waste is improperly taxing people and people getting away with not paying taxes.
For example-an ordinary pay laundromat: average water used to do a load of wash-50 gallons. It's a cash only business. The laundromat is NOT taxed on how many gallons of water is used v.s. annual sales reported.
So, say a laundromat has 20 machines, used 20 times a day at 50 gallons of water at $2.00 a load. That's 20,000 gallons of water a day, and a result in $800 in sales. State income and sales tax is not reported accurately because it's a cash business, but can easily be verified if the state required the tax to be levied on the amount of water used. You can't lie about water usage.
This is also true for coin car washes-another cash business. A car wash takes X amount of water depending on the machine used.
What's even more amazing is the parking income (cash only) at lots near Jazz games. They are always full and charge $5-10 per car. With 50 spaces at $10 per car, that's an income of $500 per game. With say 40 home games, that's an income of $20,000. There are at least six cash only pay lots around the Energy Solutions arena. There are also cash only lots when the State Fair is open, and around the state near BYU's stadium, Logan, etc. These aren't monitored and these folks are making money hand over foot each year in unreported or under-reported sales.
