On Administrative Subpoenas

Administrative Subpoenas are used in place of a warrant when law enforcement wants to access certain information.  Occasionally they can be helpful, but they also blur the lines between government authority, citizen prerogative,  and the need for judicial review, so say some Utah citizens and legislators.

We had a great discussion this week on our radio show re: personal privacy, the 4th amendment, and what the government can and can’t take without authorization.  This impacts you directly, gentle citizen, and will continue to crop up, so you’ll want to understand it.

Here are the clips from Senate President Wayne Niederhauser, Senator Mark Madsen, and XMission President Pete Ashdown about the what’s, how’s, why’s and why not’s of Administrative Subpoenas and Utah.

And a few tweets from showtime last week:

Next week we’ll invite the Attorney General’s Office to give us their side of the argument.  Happy Friday all.  See you next week.
