New Senate Site Live Stream Feedback: When you spot a glitch please post here.

Live Stream Feedback: When you spot a glitch please post here.

The Utah State Legislature is piloting three significant technology changes this year.

* New voting system software

* New Email system

* New live-streaming technology

The most publicly visible of these is the streaming technology we use to calendar meetings, post agendas, and stream the proceedings.  Granicus is our partner.  In moving to a (hopefully) improved system, we’re merging two dissimilar systems and we’re bound to have some rough spots on that road.

You can help.

When you spot a glitch please post it here.  Alternately, you could send the webmaster an Email.

Some concerns can be addressed immediately, and some may have to wait until after session when we fully build out the new program.  Either way, your insight will help. Immensely.

Thank you!

    Love the live streaming! Thank you for making this possible. I know that today I was hoping to listen to the Higher Ed meeting but all I saw on the wesbite was the NR/Science meeting and the Public Educaiton. Were there only two being streamed at 8 am? My comment is to make it easier to find what committees are streaming live right then.
    Thanks for your hard work,
    Kayla

    I was able to get audio of House Ed. Committee, but it is not working here for House Health and Human Service or House Business and Labor. The pop-up with the agenda appears, but no sound. Tried Firefox and IE. IE showed more – a video player and the message Audio Only, but still no sound.

    Thank you.

  3. Is it possible to create permanent links to the live streams of each committee and the House and Senate floor debates? If they already exist, could you post them somewhere prominent on the website? If they are already on the website, could you point me to them?

    It would make it easier to direct our http://UtahPublicEducation.org readers and social media followers to the live stream links if I could post them in advance on our calendar and scheduled tweets/FB posts. Currently, the only way to get the URLs is to click on the “view event” link, when it appears once the meeting is underway. Could you perhaps add this URL to the static committee page, in the left-hand margin?

    Also, thanks again for getting back to me about the glitch I had on Day 1 with the Senate Ed Committee. I do like the new system now that I’ve had a chance to get more familiar with it.

    Thanks!

    I noticed on Tuesday that the stream would often freeze, or cut out. When it came back, it would be for several minutes beforehand. I had to reload to get it to come to the present (more or less), and it would happen again. FYI, I am using an older MacBook computer. Seems to work better with Firefox. Can’t get it to work very well with Safari.

    Had trouble on Tuesday. Am using an older MacBook. Site will not work with Safari, sort of works with Firefox. Video on occasion will freeze. When it comes back, it is for a time many minutes ago. To get it to come back to the present, I had to exit and reload.

  7. I had the same experience as Lee with Safari and it freezes a little in Firefox but it works perfectly via android phone browsers and in Google Chrome.

  8. The Senate Education Committee link for this afternoon’s meeting just completely disappeared… Again. Help!

    This does not have to do with the live streaming, rather just a comment on the website updates as a whole. I miss the committee pages the old site used to have. It was helpful to get agendas, minutes, other materials being passed out, just from the committee’s homepage. I’m sad that those sites aren’t being utilized anymore.

    Sure had a hard time finding the Senate Education Committee link just now. It was there, then gone. Last year everything was listed in a calendar format and was so easy to click on and listen. This new site is not very user-friendly. :(

    Tuesday morning I was able to stream video to Firefox. Later that day it no longer worked. Tried Firefox 8.01, IE 7, Chrome 16.0, and Safari 5.1.1 on Windows XP this morning. I had to install the Windows Media Player plugin, but none of them worked. The player would render, but the media would never load. Interestingly, Safari on an iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.0.1 worked flawlessly.

    Somewhat off topic, but since we’re talking about the website…

    Any chance that we could have the weekly schedules set up as an icalendar feed? That would allow people to import it into Outlook, Google Calendar, etc, and have it automatically update. Make a separate one for the House and Senate. This would be awesome–I could see all the floor time and committee hearings in my regular calendar on my smart phone rather than lug around the paper calendars.

    This would actually be easy to do. Have somebody copy the weekly schedule as a google calendar, then check the option to make it “public,” then publish the relevant URL on the “weekly schedules” page.

    Unable to get the live streaming of the Senate floor debates this morning. I can get the House, but no Senate…sigh.

    I would like the volume to be higher on committee streaming. It seems much quieter than general session. I am on a laptop–have the volume all the way up and the slider on the streaming all the way up — I still cannot hear soft talkers like Rep. Christensen well. It would be possible for any to turn down volume if necessary, but max needs to be higher.

    Thanks!
